Tattoos and piercings are increasingly part of everyday life for large sections
of the population, and more emergency physicians are seeing these body
modifications (BM) adorn their patients. In this review we elucidate the most
common forms of these BMs, we describe how they may affect both the physical and
psychological health of the patient undergoing treatment, and also try to
educate around any potential pitfalls in treating associated complications.
Our observations show mosaic pregnancy outcomes to be very heterogeneous. Nevertheless, a combination of low PAPP-A and interpretation of chromosomal mosaicism might identify pregnancies at particular risk for fetal growth restriction.
Conclusions:To our knowledge, this is the first report of detection rate of abnormalities at the 11-14 week scan from a single unit from South India. The detection rate is at par with the published literature. The audit revealed areas that could be strengthened in order improve the efficiency and sensitivity of the first trimester anomaly screening.
