Anorexic patients are commonly seen in veterinary hospitals for a variety of reasons. Often the focus is rightly on finding and treating the underlying cause; however, in many instances, providing early and aggressive nutritional support can lead to improved and hastened recoveries as well as shorter hospital stays. This article discusses the management of anorexic patients, and reviews the placement of feeding tubes and the use of parenteral nutrition.
