Among 4448/7012 (63.4%) children’s hospital clinical and non-clinical staff who responded to an electronic survey, COVID-19 vaccine hesitancy was identified among 18.9% and more prevalent among those who identify as female, Black, and/or Hispanic/Latinx; non-clinical staff; and those with high-risk medical conditions and lower concern for severe COVID-19. We identified specific concerns and communication preferences to guide development of targeted vaccine education and advocacy strategies.
The study supports the use of Ulrich's theory of supportive design to children's healthcare environments, though what is experienced as supportive design will vary by the developmental stage of the child.
