La endometriosis se define como una proliferación ectópica de tejido endometrial fuera de la cavidad uterina, que afecta entre el 4-50% de las mujeres en edad reproductiva y que ocasiona dolor pélvico e infertilidad en hasta 50% de estaos pacientes. La endometriosis del apendicular es poco común y constituye menos del 1% de todas las patologías apendiculares que pueden simular una apendicitis aguda. Ésta puede presentarse con dolor abdominal agudo o crónico, la forma apendicular es la mayor parte del tiempo asintomática, lo cual hace que el diagnóstico preoperatorio sea difícil. La laparoscopia es el procedimiento diagnóstico de elección y la biopsia confirmará la entidad con la presencia de glándulas endometriales y el estroma infiltrándose en su tejido muscular.
