A colonização de espécies em áreas abertas é influenciada pelo processo de nucleação. Este estudo visou descrever a ação facilitadora de Bowdichia virgilioides na colonização de novos indivíduos. As coletas ocorreram em duas áreas (Fogo e Não Fogo) no Parque Estadual da Serra de Caldas Novas (PESCAN) em 14 núcleos e 14 parcelas de 2x2m. Foram coletadas as seguintes medidas por núcleo: altura total e da primeira ramificação, DAP, área e volume da copa. Todos os indivíduos arbóreos colonizadores foram identificados e quantificados (núcleo e parcelas). Foram calculados área da copa e volume. A estrutura dos núcleos foi testada entre as áreas Fogo e Não Fogo. A densidade nos núcleos e parcelas entre as áreas Fogo e Não Fogo foi comparada por ANOVA. O índice de Shannon-Wiener foi comparado em núcleos e parcelas. Testou-se a importância da ornitocoria entre os núcleos e parcelas. A relação área da copa e número de indivíduos foi estimada por correlação. Houve diferença significativa entre os índices de diversidade nos núcleos e nas parcelas e entre as densidades nas áreas Fogo e Não Fogo. A ornitocoria foi significativamente maior nos núcleos. Houve correlação positiva para a área Não Fogo entre área da copa e densidade de indivíduos. B. virgilioides atua como nucleadora, facilitando a colonização de novos indivíduos no cerrado sentido restrito.
