RESUMO OBJETIVO:Avaliar o impacto que um programa de treinamento físico pode ter sobre a qualidade de vida e a funcionalidade em um grupo de pessoas que sofreram um acidente vascular encefálico. MÉTODOS: Este programa de condicionamento físico teve duração de quatro meses, entre fevereiro de 2013 e março de 2014 na unidade Ibirapuera da Associação de Assistência à Criança Deficiente (AACD), com frequência de duas vezes por semana, em dias não consecutivos, sessões de 1h20min, supervisionadas por um fisioterapeuta, sendo realizado treinamento aeróbico em esteira e/ou bicicleta ergométrica e fortalecimento com resistência para membros inferiores. Antes e após o programa foram aplicados o teste de caminhada de 6 minutos (TC6) e o questionário de qualidade de vida World Health Organization Quality of Life -Bref (WHOQOL-Bref). A análise estatística foi realizada pelo teste t Student e Kolmogorov-Smirnov. RESULTADOS: Participaram 8 pessoas com idade de 57,62 anos (±12,65), sendo 4 homens e 4 mulheres, que sofreram Acidente Vascular Encefálico (AVE) há 7,35 anos (±5,43). A maioria da amostra apresentava quadro de hipertensão arterial, uso de aditamentos para marcha e não realizavam atividade física prévia. Realizaram em média 25 sessões, aumentando o tempo de execução das atividades aeróbicas propostas, mantendo média de 58,21% (±8,83) da frequência cardíaca máxima predita para a idade, assim como tiveram aumento do número de repetições e carga dos exercícios resistidos para membros inferiores. O teste t Student pareado comparou os resultados do TC6 e do WHOQOL-Bref, não havendo diferença estatística entre a distância percorrida inicial e final ao programa, também não sendo observada diferença em relação aos dados do questionário de qualidade de vida. CONCLUSÃO: O atual estudo mostrou leve melhora da qualidade de vida de indivíduos que sofreram AVE após realizarem um programa de exercício físico, demonstrado pelo questionário de vida WHOQOL-Bref. Não foi observada diferença significativa dos valores do TC6 antes e após o programa.
