<p>Lateral closing wedge osteotomy is a commonly described procedure for correcting cosmetically unacceptable post-traumatic cubitus varus deformity in children. We report a case of 12-year-old boy who underwent step cut osteotomy for cubitus varus deformity. Preoperative measurements of varus deformity followed by planning of osteotomy using a template was done. Intraoperatively the preplanned cuts were made using a posterior approach and then fixation was done using k wire. Patient recovered completely with correction of deformity. Step cut osteotomy has key advantages over traditional closing wedge osteotomy and hence can be used as an alternative surgical technique.</p><p><strong> </strong></p>
Orthopaedic implants are made up of metal alloys which even though are inert may cause allergic hypersensitivity reactions which may systemic or cutaneous. We discuss a case of hypersensitivity reaction to orthopaedic forearm plating which was manifested locally thought out the body surface. Dermatologist and orthopaedic surgeon worked collaboratively to manage this scenario successfully. However, further research needs to be carried out for detection and prevention.
<p>Pyoderma gangrenosum (PG) is an uncommon neutrophilic dermatosis characterized by painful skin ulcers. It is associated with various systemic diseases but is rarely associated with orthopedic conditions. We report a case of a pyogenic gangrenosum in a 40-year-old male, that occurred in association with a lower limb fracture. This patient suffered a laceration over the ankle which was the sutured initially and the fracture was managed conservatively. Later on the wound was complicated with the development of pyoderma gangrenosum. Failure to treat with antibiotics and local wound management lead to alternative diagnosis by dermatologist. Patient was successfully managed by dermatologist and fracture was managed conservatively. Such incidents of PG in association with orthopedic procedures, complicate treatment and cause delay in recovery, leading to poor patient outcome.</p>
