Changes in employment in the Paris region
In the Paris Region (Ile-de-France), firms of a certain size (more than 10 workers) provide most of the employments. A lot of these firms are dealing with Upper- stream services for industries, Automobile or High technologies. They set in Ile-de- France their directional jobs, more skilled than anywhere else in France, and especially in the surrounding "ZPIU" (industrial and urban zones). They also give its shape to the inner metropolitan spatial organization.

Les nouveaux espaces industriels de la région parisienne, parmi lesquels quatre des cinq « villes nouvelles », se situent presque tous dans la frange ouest et sud de l'agglomération, à Cergy-Pontoise, et de Saint-Quentin-en-Yvelines à Évry-Corbeil et Melun.
Pour les délimiter, on analyse des statistiques de l'emploi qui montrent la mutation de la place de Paris dans la géographie du système productif. De centre directionnel de l'industrie satellisant à sa périphérie des fabrications diversifiées, Paris s'est transformée en ville tertiaire. L'industrie, qui s'est fortement rétractée, se concentre à tous les points de vue : concentration spatiale autour de La Défense, concentration de l'industrie sur un petit nombre de branches et concentration des capitaux industriels.
