What are the novel findings of this work?An inability to visualize the branch pulmonary arteries in the same plane and the presence of an obtuse posterior pulmonary artery bifurcation angle on fetal echocardiography are associated with postnatal ductus arteriosus-related pulmonary stenosis (DA-PS) in fetal pulmonary atresia. The sensitivity, specificity and positive and negative predictive values of the presence of one or both features (considering a posterior bifurcation angle of ≥ 105 • ) for prediction of DA-PS in fetuses with pulmonary atresia are 100%, 93%, 95% and 100%, respectively.
What are the clinical implications of this work? These findings have clinical implications for prenatal counseling and postnatal management of the affected patients.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
