In order to analyse the way in which college students learn it, a genetic decomposition (DG) for the theorem was designed. Through three case studies, it is shown how individual students build the concept of coordinates of a vector, but also have difficulties to use it in the construction of the vector coordinates matrix. This difficulty is linked to the fact that they have not coordinated the processes involved in terms of the quantifier. Specifically, we point to difficulties in building the CBVT as an object and in establishing the determining role of the concept of linear combinations in the CBVT.
It was sought to know the epistemology of the teachers on school mathematical knowledge. The study was framed in the Socioepistemological Theory, understanding mathematics as a human activity from epistemic relativism. This qualitative study used microscopic analysis to form categories and then dialectically analyzed those categories. The investigative interest arose when observing the influence of Eurocentrism, the mono epistemisism of the school and the absence of some knowledge in teaching. The epistemology of the teacher influences his teaching and affects the school model as a tool for change or social continuity. The results showed that teachers mostly understand mathematics as a priori knowledge, assigning to human action the role of discovering, interpreting or formalizing it.

We present a study about the meanings attributed to the equal sign, in an algebraic context, by a group of students of secondary school (13-14 years) in Uruguay. We focus on two work sessions we developed with the whole group. The results show that tasks focused on similarities and differences, including those of classifying and those that need to compare and contrast, mediated by a practice of inquiry, generated genuine discussions that aroused the interest of students, which in turn allowed them to approach to conceptual aspects related to the equal sign that contributed to their understanding.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
