This research aims to explore the university-industry collaboration in a public university in Mexico. This research considers the resear-chers´ perception of organizational factors and the researchers´ characteristics as drivers of the university-industry collaboration. The research design of this study was quantitative. Findings indicate that the researchers´ participation in innovation projects is low. The researchers´ perception about some organizational factors to collaborate with industry is negative. Data shows that researchers consider complicate to establish a relationship with industry that is mainly related to organizational factors. In addition, important findings of this study suggest that researchers´ gender influence the university-industry collaboration.
EL OBJETIVO DEL ENSAYO ES ANALIZAR LA TRAYECTORIA TECNOLÓGICA DE UNA INDUSTRIA, O EMPRESA, COMO UNA FORMA DE EXPLICAR SU CRECIMIENTO O CICLO DE VIDA. PARA ELLO, SE DISCUTEN ASPECTOS TEÓRICOS QUE VINCULAN EL CRECIMIENTO DE LAS INDUSTRIAS Y EMPRESAS CON LA INNOVACIÓN TECNOLÓGICA; FINALMENTE SE PROPONE UN ESQUEMA METODOLÓGICO QUE INCLUYE UNA PROPUESTA PARA MEDIR DICHA TRAYECTORIA TECNOLÓGICA. EN EL ENSAYO SE ARGUMENTA QUE PARA CARACTERIZAR A UNA TECNOLOGÍA COMO "INNOVADORA" O "MADURA" ES NECESARIO REALIZAR ALGÚN TIPO DE MEDICIÓN DE LA TRAYECTORIA TECNOLÓGICA DE LA PROPIA EMPRESA Y TAMBIÉN DE LA INDUSTRIA EN LA QUE PARTICIPA, A PARTIR DE CONSIDERACIONES NO SÓLO DE LA PROPIA TECNOLOGÍA, SINO TAMBIÉN DE VARIABLES DE MERCADO Y DE PRODUCCIÓN. LA ESTRUCTURA DEL ENSAYO ABARCA CUATRO APARTADOS. EN EL PRIMERO SE JUSTIFICA LA IMPORTANCIA DEL ENSAYO, RELACIONANDO LA TRAYECTORIA TECNOLÓGICA CON EL CICLO DE VIDA DE LAS EMPRESAS. EN EL SEGUNDO SE PRESENTAN LAS ETAPAS DE LA TRAYECTORIA TECNOLÓGICA. EN EL APARTADO TRES SE PRESENTA LA METODOLOGÍA DEL ESTUDIO QUE INCLUYE LAS VARIABLES E INDICADORES SELECCIONADOS. POR ÚLTIMO, SE PRESENTA LA RECAPITULACIÓN, REFLEXIONES Y LÍNEAS DE INVESTIGACIÓN RESULTANTES.

This work aims to contribute to the study of university-business linkages, focusing on the processes of generation and transfer of knowledge. The objective is to show the role of the scientific and inventive capabilities generated in the universities, in order to understand how an effective linkage between them and the companies can be fostered to create and develop innovative products through the transfer of technology. We analyze the experience of the Institute of Biomedical Research of the National Autonomous University of Mexico (IBR-UNAM). This institute is a university research center (URC) that in the Mexican context stands out for its relevant generation of scientific and inventive capabilities. It is shown that for the knowledge created in the universities to be transferred to generate new products and/or marketable processes, the efforts of educational and research institutions and the interface units are crucial, as well as the existence of entrepreneurial companies that include innovation as a central factor in their business strategy, capable of identifying and using capabilities generated within universities and public research centers.

Purpose
The purpose of this paper is to review the contributions of what has been established as Latin American thought, as science, technology, and innovation (STI) in Latin America have been strongly related to development.
Design/methodology/approach
The analysis method is based on the review of a group of Latin American and Latinoamericanista (Latin Americanist) authors who were selected on the basis of their contributions to the explanation and proposals of public policy related to STI. The following are some of the questions that guide the analysis. How much has STI in Latin American thought contributed to the development theory? Given the fact that there are other dominant mainstreams, can we say that Latin American thought is still relevant?
Findings
The main conclusion of this work is that Latin American thought is still applied to current Latin American development discussions. This can be proven by the creation of particular concepts and analytical frameworks such as structural heterogeneity, development styles, authentic and spurious competitiveness, Sabato’s Triangle, the centre-periphery model, and STI policy practices.
Originality/value
This paper gathered contributions and categorised them into three dimensions: state participation (intensity, composition), industrialisation as the impulse for development, and instruments and public policy actions that can be implemented or have already been implemented.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
