The elements determining the profitability of companies have warranted special attention over time. The levels of rising debt, increased concerns for liquidity and risks of bankruptcy have impacted the revenue of manufacturing sector companies in general and service sector companies in particular. In this study, an attempt has been made to study the financial health of companies belonging to Indian telecom industry. For this purpose, a balanced panel dataset of five Indian telecom companies listed on National Stock Exchange (NSE) has been used to examine the determinants of profitability over the period of 2004-2017. Profitability has been taken as an explained variable whereas size, leverage, liquidity, non-debt tax shield (NDTS), tangibility, growth opportunities and bankruptcy probability (Altman Z-score) have been considered as explanatory variables. The findings of the study reveal that the size and growth have a direct relationship with profitability, whereas the leverage has an inverse relationship. Tangibility, NDTS, liquidity and Z-score indicate insignificant impact on profitability.

The present study examines the mediating role of perceptions of organizational politics on the relationship between leader-member exchange and perceptions of organizational justice. With the help of multi-stage random sampling technique, data was collected from 493 faculty members who were working in public sector universities of Punjab. Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) was applied to test the proposed hypothesized relationships. Results of the structural equation modeling analysis demonstrated that employees who are part of in-group have higher levels of perceptions of organizational politics but lower levels of perceptions of organizational justice. Furthermore, employee who perceives high degree of organizational politics has shown lower levels of perceptions of organizational justice. Results of the study postulated that for more positive perceptions of organizational justice among the employees a leader should develop a high quality relationship with more employees by limiting the usage of more political behavior within the organization. This study is one of its type in Indian context as we find no empirical evidence which examines the effect of quality of leader-member exchange relationship on the perceptions of organizational justice which is being mediated through the perceptions of organizational politics of faculty members.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to comprehend the efficiency levels of the Indian textile industry and also its sub-sectors in the light of changing global and national business environment. It is imperative to study the efficiency levels of textile industry for an emerging economy like India, where the industry contributes up to 13 per cent in export earnings, 10 per cent in total industrial production and 2 per cent in gross domestic product (GDP). The study holds an important place in the wake of phasing out of the quota regime existing under the Multi Fibre Agreement (MFA) and the rising competition being faced from countries such as Bangladesh, Vietnam and Cambodia. Design/methodology/approach The present study attempts to have an in-depth analysis of the efficiency levels in the Indian textile industry using meta-frontier data envelopment analysis, which is a non-parametric linear programming based frontier technique. Findings The findings highlight that the Indian textile industry is inefficient and has a huge scope of improvement in terms of efficiency. It also confirms the existence of different production functions among the sub-sectors of the industry. Among the different sub-sectors, the proximity of production frontier of readymade garments is the closest to meta-frontier followed by cotton and blended yarn, man-made fibre, cloth and others. Practical implications The findings bear strong implications for the policymakers in their attempt to regain the lost competitive position of the Indian textile industry and to enhance its contribution in the economy. As per the findings, policymakers should target the relatively inefficient sub-sectors of textile industry (cloth, man-made fibre, cotton and blended yarn) to infuse more efficiency in these sectors to enhance the market share of the Indian textile industry in the global textiles market. Originality/value The current study is a unique addition to the sparse literature on managing efficiencies in the textile industry, particularly of emerging economy like India. Looking at the methodological and geographical coverage of the previous work, it was found that no study has explored and analysed the efficiencies of the sub-sectors in the Indian textile industry using meta-frontier analysis. Therefore, this study will be the first of its kind which seeks to fill such gaps and intends to enrich the available literature.

Objective:The objective of this study is to assess the prevalence of sleep disorders among children aging between 4 and 9 years using Hindi version of Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ).Methods:This study had two parts first, translation and validation of PSQ into Hindi language, and second, assessment of the prevalence of sleep disorders using PSQ Hindi version. Hindi PSQ was distributed in randomly chosen primary schools in a semi-urban area. The children were requested to get them filled by their parents. When the questionnaires were returned, responses were analyzed.Results:Most of the items of the Hindi version had perfect agreement with original questionnaire in a bilingual population (κ =1). Totally, 435 children were included in the field study having average age of 6.3 years. Obstructive sleep apnea was reported in 7.5% children; symptoms suggestive of restless legs syndrome were reported by 2%–3%; teeth grinding by 13.9% and sleep talking by 22.6% children.Conclusion:PSQ Hindi version is a validated tool to screen for sleep disorders among children. Sleep disorders are fairly prevalent among young children in India.
