This study investigated the relationship between the job satisfaction of counselors employed by a state vocational rehabilitation (VR) agency and the satisfaction of their consumers with both the counselor and the overall VR experience. Multiple regression was used to determine whether facets of job satisfaction were related to consumers' satisfaction. Results indicated that job satisfaction was significantly related to consumer satisfaction and was able to account for a significant amount of variance in consumer satisfaction. The implications of these findings for VR are discussed.

In a national study, researchers collected survey data from 315 state rehabilitation agency counselors in 16 states to examine job satisfaction and extrinsic job factors. This report provides statistical analyses and extensive descriptive data characteristics. For example, only 46% of the sample reported having a master's degree (or higher) in some form of counseling, and only 25% reported possessing the certified rehabilitation counselor credential. Rehabilitation counselors reported a high degree of job satisfaction. Counselor job satisfaction correlated significantly with six extrinsic job factors, and gender differences concerning satisfaction with these extrinsic factors were found. Recommendations for state agency surveys are provided.

This study examined a state-operated mental retardation service delivery system and conducted a systems analysis of the case coordinator referral system to determine the characteristics of individuals who were likely to be referred to supported employment. It also performed an outcomes analysis of the system's supported employment program to determine who was likely to be successful in the program. This examination was conducted by building prediction models using existing case file information. This study provided some evidence that empirically derived prediction models (i.e., logistic and multiple regression) can be a functional evaluation tool for supported employment managers, administrators, and rehabilitation counselors.
