Resumen Antecedentes: El riesgo cardiovascular es la probabilidad que tiene un individuo de sufrir enfermedades del sistema cardiovascular dentro de un determinado plazo de tiempo y esto depende de la cantidad de factores de riesgo presentes en el individuo. Objetivo: Determinar los factores de riesgo asociados a infarto agudo de miocardio en pacientes del área de emergencias del Hospital de especialidades Carlos Andrade Marín. Metodología: Estudio transversal realizado en el período de enero 2018 en el área de emergencias del Hospital de especialidades Carlos Andrade Marín que incluyó a 30 pacientes con diagnóstico confirmado de infarto agudo de miocardio con condición clínica estable y se excluyeron a pacientes con evidente deterioro cognitivo y con condición clínica inestable. Las variables de interés fueron los factores de riesgo cardiovascular modificables y no modificables. Resultados: Los factores de riesgo con mayor prevalencia obtenidos en este estudio son: sexo masculino, raza mestiza, edad comprendida entre 41 a 80 años, ausencia de antecedentes personales y familiares, hábitos de alcoholismo y ausencia de actividad física regular. Conclusión: Los individuos de sexo masculino, raza mestiza, en edades comprendidas entre 41 a 80 años, sin antecedentes personales ni familiares, con hábitos de alcoholismo y que no realizan actividad física regular presentan mayor riesgo de padecer infarto agudo de miocardi
