Ao reunir o resultado de pesquisas do Grupo de Estudos em Raciocínios Combinatório e Probabilístico (Geração), da UFPE, este livro tem como foco central os processos de ensino e de aprendizagem ligados ao desenvolvimento do raciocínio combinatório e probabilístico, mas suas discussões se relacionam também com outros conteúdos matemáticos. As investigações foram realizadas sob olhares de professores e estudantes, e em diálogo com documentos oficiais, materiais curriculares e outros recursos de ensino e de aprendizagem, organizando-se em três blocos: 1) estudos com professores sobre seus conhecimentos referentes ao ensino de probabilidade e combinatória; 2) pesquisas com estudantes da educação básica sobre recursos voltados para a aprendizagem em probabilidade e combinatória, abrangendo desde o uso de problemas, jogos e desenhos até o uso de softwares, e desde a educação infantil até a de jovens e adultos; e 3) propostas de educação inclusiva. Com variados métodos de pesquisa e variados referenciais teóricos, é uma obra de utilidade para pesquisadores, docentes de cursos voltados à Educação Matemática e professores da Educação Básica; uma fonte de auxílio para o planejamento e a execução de atividades escolares que possibilitem o desenvolvimento dos estudantes, em particular seus raciocínios combinatório e probabilístico.
O texto apresenta uma discussão sobre os processos de ensino e de aprendizagem em matemática escolar, buscando estabelecer um fazer matemático “com sentido”. Nessa perspectiva, tece considerações sobre a sala de aula como um ambiente social de interações, buscando atribuir sentido à Matemática, em tarefas na perspectiva da problematização. Discute-se o movimento de ideias relacionadas à metodologia de resolução de problemas, em um ensino de Matemática para resolver problemas, pela resolução de problemas e pela Matemática. Busca-se dar sentido a essa resolução em um ambiente de problematização e consideram-se os seguintes aspectos: a natureza da tarefa, o papel do professor, os recursos didáticos, uma cultura social de sala de aula de Matemática e a acessibilidade da Matemática para todos os estudantes (Hiebert et al, 1997). Apresentam-se situações da sala de aula que contemplam tais aspectos, com problematizações envolvidas no movimento de pensamento probabilístico de estudantes. A mediação da professora pesquisadora colabora para o movimento de aprendizagem matemática com sentido.
