Identificar o perfil das internações decorrentes de desnutrição infantil no Nordeste do Brasil. Metodologia: Trata-se de um estudo epidemiológico, transversal, descritivo, de caráter quantitativo, cujos dados foram obtidos por meio de consulta às bases de dados Sistema de Informações Hospitalares do SUS (SIH/SUS), disponibilizados pelo Departamento de Informática do Sistema Único de Saúde (DATASUS), no endereço eletrônico http://www.datasus.gov.br, referentes ao período de 2016 até 2021. A população em estudo foi constituída por crianças até 9 anos de idade internados na região do Nordeste por desnutrição. Os dados obtidos foram organizados em tabelas e gráficos e analisados posteriormente. Resultados e Discussão: Com a realização da pesquisa foi possível identificar a Bahia, Maranhão e o Sergipe como os Estados da região Nordeste com o maior número de casos de internações hospitalares por desnutrição infantil no período estudado. Ao analisar o sexo, a proporção de internações por desnutrição revelou maior para o sexo masculino (média de 50,9%). Quanto a faixa etária os menores de 1 ano corresponderam a mais de 70% dos casos de desnutrição. E na pesquisa da variável raça/cor as crianças não brancas apresentaram maiores proporções de internações por desnutrição quando comparadas as brancas, sendo essa proporção em torno de 49,1%. Conclusão: A desnutrição infantil caracteriza-se como uma das principais doenças completamente evitáveis da infância e suscetível à prevenção. Contudo, sua ocorrência ainda é uma realidade que permeia a população nordestina. Os dados apresentados por este estudo evidenciam o desafio de reduzir as diferenças regionais no país e enfrentar as desigualdades sociais que se tornaram ainda mais evidentes, nos últimos anos, no campo da nutrição na primeira infância.
