O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a exatidão das estimativas de altura total com a utilização de modelos de regressão e redes neurais artificiais (RNAs) em um plantio puro de ipê felpudo. Foram ajustados quatro modelos de regressão e treinadas redes do tipo Multilayer Perceptron, com dois critérios de treinamento: considerando como variáveis de entrada o DAP, idade e altura dominante e, utilizando apenas o DAP. As RNAs e os modelos de regressão foram avaliados pelas estatísticas Viés (V), Média das diferenças absoluta (MD), Raiz do quadrado médio do erro (RQME) e Coeficiente de correlação (r), além da análise gráfica dos resíduos. A estimação da altura total das árvores com utilização de modelos genéricos de regressão e a RNA com covariáveis apresentou maior exatidão quando comparada aos modelos de regressão e da RNA em função somente do DAP.
O objetivo deste estudo foi analisar diferentes métodos de medição da altura comercial de árvores para fins de manejo florestal sustentável em uma floresta nativa da região Amazônica, localizada em um Projeto de assentamento florestal. Os métodos de medição analisados foram: visual realizado por uma pessoa com experiência; clinômetro Suunto; hipsômetro eletrônico Haglöf II; e hipsômetro Vertex IV. Foi realizada medição direta com uma trena à árvore abatida, para fins de avaliações dos métodos indiretos de medição. Os métodos foram comparados por meio da análise gráfica dos resíduos e pelas estatísticas: Viés (V), Raiz do Quadrado Médio do Erro (RQME) e Médias das Diferenças absolutas (MD). O tempo médio de execução dos métodos foi comparado pelo teste t de Student a 5% de significância. De modo geral, considerando o tempo de execução, exatidão das medidas de altura e o custo de implementação, o clinômetro Suunto e a estimativa visual realizada por uma pessoa experiente foram os métodos com melhores resultados.
