Based on psychological, pedagogical, social, philosophical and other literature, the article examines the mechanisms of formation of the Russian identity of students. Various positions of the study of Russian identity are presented and characterized, among which: historical, political, sociological, cultural, regional, psychological and pedagogical. The process of formation of the Russian identity is formulated, which is a process of consistent, interrelated actions aimed at the formation of the identity of the individual to the state, the education of civic and patriotic qualities of students, allowing them to use civil rights and perform civic duties. The mechanisms of formation of the Russian identity of students are substantiated, including: political, virtual, organizational and managerial, psychological, pedagogical and socio-cultural.
