Pandemics, including the COVID-19 pandemic, disrupt traditional health care operations by overwhelming system resource capacity. This article describes the development and rapid deployment of a virtual hospital program within a large health care system and their early caring for patients with COVID-19.
In our preliminary experience robotic pyeloplasty in infants is feasible and safe. The immediate outcomes are similar to those of an open approach. The robotic technique in infants currently has the benefits of improved esthetic appearance, improved pain control and similar direct costs compared to the traditional open approach.
In this report, we looked at whether repeat prostate-specific antigen (PSA) measurements, or PSA kinetics, improve prediction of biopsy outcomes in men using active surveillance to manage localized prostate cancer. We found that in a large multicenter active surveillance cohort, PSA kinetics improves the prediction of surveillance biopsy outcome.
In order to avoid unnecessary biopsy and downstream effects including treatment of insignificant prostate cancer, a number of tests have been proposed to improve upon PSA screening. Increasing the specificity of prostate cancer screening above that of PSA testing should reduce the incidence of unnecessary prostate biopsy. However, an increase in specificity is associated with a decrease in sensitivity, so these tests must be balanced with the concern for missing the diagnosis of potentially significant disease. In this context, we present a review of six common biomarkers proposed to improve the specificity of prostate cancer screening-free PSA, prostate health index, 4Kscore, PCA3, Select MDx, and ExoDx Prostate(Intelliscore).
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
