The paper proposes a complete real-time control algorithm for autonomous collision-free operations of the quadrotor UAV. As opposed to fixed wing vehicles the quadrotor is a small agile vehicle which might be more suitable for the variety of specific applications including search and rescue, surveillance and remote inspection. The developed control system incorporates both trajectory planning and path following. Using a differential flatness property the trajectory planning is posed as a constrained optimization problem in the output space (as opposed to the control space), which simplifies the problem. The trajectory and speed profile are parameterized to reduce the problem to a finite dimensional problem. To optimize the speed profile independently of the trajectory a virtual argument is used as opposed to time. A path following portion of the proposed algorithm uses a standard linear multi-variable control technique. The paper presents the results of simulations to demonstrate the suitability of the proposed control algorithm.
(Review Version)For any given system the number and location of sensors can affect the closed-loop performance as well as the reliability of the system. Hence one problem in control system design is the selection of the sensors in some optimum sense that considers both the system performance and reliability. Although some methods have been proposed that deal with some of the aforementioned aspects, in this work, a design framework dealing with both control and reliability aspects is presented. The proposed framework is able to identify the best sensor set for which optimum performance is achieved even under single or multiple sensor failures with minimum sensor redundancy. The proposed systematic framework combines linear quadratic gaussian control, fault tolerant control and multiobjective optimisation. The efficacy of the proposed framework is shown via appropriate simulations on an electro-magnetic suspension system.
The problem of minimizing the maximum transient energy growth is considered. This problem has importance in some fluid flow control problems and other classes of nonlinear systems. Conditions for the existence of static controllers that ensure strict dissipativity of the transient energy are established and an explicit parametrization of all such controllers is provided. It also is shown that by means of a -parametrization, the problem of minimizing the maximum transient energy growth can be posed as a convex optimization problem that can be solved by means of a Ritz approximation of the free parameter. By considering the transient energy growth at an appropriate sequence of discrete time points, the minimal maximum transient energy growth problem can be posed as a semidefinite program. The theoretical developments are demonstrated on a numerical example.Abstract-We examine the consensus problem for a group of agents that communicate via a stochastic information network. Communication among agents is modeled as a weighted directed random graph that switches periodically. The existence of any edge is probabilistic and independent from the existence of any other edge. We further allow each edge to be weighted differently. Sufficient conditions for asymptotic almost sure consensus are presented for the case of positive weights and for the case of arbitrary weights.
