Pendant des années, on a considéré que les dessertes locales des réseaux de télécommunications étaient des monopoles naturels dans lesquels les bénéfices d'une offre concurrentielle étaient inférieurs aux coûts de duplication d'infrastructure. Cette idée est maintenant critiquée par ceux qui prennent appui sur l'expérience britannique, en particulier sur l'offre concurrentielle en matière de télécommunications fournie par les réseaux câblés. Les auteurs s'attachent dans cet article à analyser cette expérience. Leur conclusion est que l'annonce de la disparition des monopoles dans les télécommunications est peut-être prématurée.
