We have designed and built a soft-x-ray interferometer to test the possibility of a direct measurement of the refractive index (i.e., the real part of the complex index) of materials in the soft-x-ray range. The interferometer is based on the Fresnel bimirror setup. It works near the zero path difference and requires only little spatial coherence. Plane mirrors at grazing incidence are the only optical elements. Interference fringes have been recorded at 4.8 nm, near the K edge of carbon. An index value could be obtained by measuring the fringe pattern shift between two such records, one without and one with a sample in one optical path. An estimation of the noise-limited accuracy in such an index determination shows that a few parts in 10-6 can be anticipated.
The development of soft x-ray interferometry demands high quality optical elements and high brightness sources. However, the balance between these two requirements depends on the exact nature of the interferometer setups. Generally speaking, amplitude division interferometers require beam splitters, the optical quality of which remain a big technological issue. On the contrary, the high brightness sources needed by wavefront division interferometers are readily available, and will progress in the near future. Examples of such interferometers are given for various applications in development or in project. 0 1995 American Institute of Physics.
This paper describes the theoretical background of electromagnetic induction from metal objects modelling. The response function of a specific case of object shape -a homogenous sphere from ferromagnetic and nonferromagnetic material is introduced. Experimental data measured by a metal detector excited with a linearly frequency-swept signal are presented. As a testing target various spheres from different materials and sizes were used. These results should lead to better identification of the buried object.
Covid-19 related restrictions bring new challenges to all aspects and phases of higher education. At universities, new remote formats are deployed or even developed both for lectures and laboratory exercises. This article addresses new challenges and describes the experience with lessons during the pandemic time at the Department of Measurement of the Czech Technical University in Prague, Faculty of Electrical Engineering. It introduces the best practices exercised using the Home Lab, which helps in distance teaching of practical electronic classes. Home Lab includes two models with functional groups, a Laboratory Experimental Device and System of Measurement Instruments. The article also shows the possibilities of suitable remote exercises and variants of circuits that can be easily assembled and measured using Software Defined Instrument based on STM microcontrollers. During the pandemic, the home lab model was successfully practically verified during distance learning in three classes, with more than 150 students. The article also presents experience with the teaching of software-oriented courses. At first glance, their transformation can be viewed as straightforward. However, practical realization reveals few remarkable details.

This document analyses qualities of methods used for testing dynamical parameters of Digital-to-Analog Converters (DAC) using a multi-frequency signal. As the source for these signals, Amplitude Modulated (AM) and Frequency Modulated (FM) signals are used. These signals are often used in radio engineering. Results of the tests, like Effective Number of Bits (ENOB), Signal-to-Noise and Distortion (SINAD), are evaluated in the frequency domain and they are compared with standard results of Sine Wave FFT test methods. The aim of this research is firstly to test whether it is possible to test a DAC using modulated signals, secondly to reduce testing time, while estimating band performance of DAC.
