Vor bald 20 Jahren, es mag im Herbst 1990 gewesen sein, habe ich am Martinů -Symposion in Prag teilgenommen und unter dem Titel "Ist die Leichtigkeit bei Martinů erträglich?" über Martinů s populäre Seite gesprochen. Man hat damals etwas sauersüß reagiert, nicht etwa wegen der eigentlichen Fragestellung, sondern wegen der Anspielung auf Milan Kunderas Erfolgsbuch, das im Deutschen den Titel bekommen hatte: Die unerträgliche Leichtigkeit des Seins.Allem Anschein nach war in Prag die Nennung des Namens Kundera immer noch verpönt gewesen. Und außerdem hatte man erwartet, wenn schon jetzt nach der Wende ein neuer Wind so nach und nach zum Wehen kam, dass man die bisher beinah geächteten Koryphäen Martinů und Janácˇek zumindest gelobt, aber nicht derart in Frage gestellt hätte. Aber ich habe es getan und kann mir heute noch nicht ein Gran Schadenfreude verklemmen, wenn ich daran denke, dass Martinů eigentlich recht populär geworden ist, zumindest sind es heute einige wenige seiner Werke.Also setze ich nochmals gleichermaßen beim Imitator Martinů an, den ich damals als genial bezeichnet und gesagt habe, dass er hier "in seinem Element" sei.In den ersten drei Tonbeispielen aus Half-Time erklingen Passagen, die Petruschka oder Sacre de printemps von Igor Strawinsky imitieren, aber auch Maurice Ravel liegt nahe dabei, im vierten Beispiel aus La Bagarre klingt es täuschend ähnlich nach Musik von Arthur Honegger. Das war aber vielleicht der Martinů , den Sie erwartet haben -mit seinen weiten Melodien, ein bisschen traurig und ein bisschen melancholisch, inspiriert von der slawischen Seele. In den nächsten zwei Beispielen aus La Revue de Cuisine erklingt der schon populäre Martinů -ein Ausschnitt aus dem Charleston und die Schlusspassage des vierten Satzes. Und in diesem letzten Satz gelingt es Martinů , drei Stile oder vielmehr drei Spielweisen unter den gleichen Hut zu bringen: die klassische, die volkstümliche und die vom Jazz beeinflusste -im Ballett Die Versuchung des heiligen Kochtopfs unter dem Titel La Revue de Cuisine. Diese ironisierte Virtuosität, gespickt mit rhythmischen Konflikten -das ist leicht und zugleich schwer. Martinů ist in diesen Zwanzigerjahren offen für alle Formen, welche in den Tempeln der Kunst und des Variétées in Paris vorgeführt worden sind. Martinů war unvoreingenommen und auf der Suche nach neuen Ufern. Eine virtuose Imitiergabe war ihm eigen und ein phänomenales Klanggedächtnis. Imitieren, zitieren, parodieren, karikieren -das war in den Zwanzigerjahren sein Element, wenn er sich fremde 4 44 4
