A fome, a miséria e a infância são temas comuns à literatura, e eles se unem no conto “O dia em que comemos Maria Dulce” (2015), extraído da obra com mesmo nome, do escritor paraibano Antônio Mariano. Em uma narrativa fantástica que atrai os leitores não apenas por sua ruptura com o real — principalmente na configuração de uma personagem de natureza dúbia de menina e doce —, vemos o fator social enquanto mola propulsora para o desenrolar da trama, atrelado à inquietante percepção da realidade, que carrega consigo certa plasticidade e lirismo próprios de uma literatura capaz de arrebatar seus leitores por confrontá-los e atraí-los ao texto. Com o objetivo de observar como se estabelecem os limites entre a realidade e o insólito, o trabalho em questão analisa a presença do fantástico na referida narrativa. Nela, há uma sucessão de metáforas que deslizam paulatinamente para o plano da literalidade e, como consequência, rompe com a estabilidade do universo diegético para instaurar a fantasticidade. A partir das concepções de Roas (2011, 2014), Todorov (1975) e Jaime Alazraki (2001), evidenciaremos algumas estratégias discursivas que cooperam para a conversão do enredo, descrito pela ótica das consequências de uma seca avassaladora, à atmosfera fantástica.
A morte está presente nos textos literários destinados ao público infantil, e, embora a temática ainda seja considerada tabu para muitos, o número de obras que a utilizam como eixo central da narrativa vem crescendo ao longo dos anos, bem como cresce o número de obras ilustradas, sendo muitas delas compostas apenas por imagens. Nas páginas dos livros, a morte assume várias facetas, e na literatura para crianças isso não é diferente. Nessa relação entre texto e imagem que esse trabalho surgiu. Assim, analisamos como as ilustrações contribuem para a construção da representação da morte na obra Harvey, como me tornei invisível, de Hervé Bouchard e Janice Nadeau (2012), enfatizando não apenas a própria representação da morte criada a partir da narrativa, mas, especialmente, como as imagens atuam tanto na construção dos significados dos textos quantos nos desdobramentos de seus sentidos. Como aporte teórico, visitamos obras de autores consagrados tanto no âmbito da literatura infantil, quanto da temática da morte e da ilustração. Desses nomes, listamos Oliveira (2008), Abramovich (2008), Ramos e Nunes (2013), Paiva (2011), Lotterman (2009) e Aguiar (2010).
Sabemos que o tema da morte é abordado em diversos textos, sejam eles para adultos ou crianças, e em diferentes perspectivas, que variam de acordo com o contexto e a época em que são produzidos. Um dos universos em que a morte é observada é o da Literatura Infantil e juvenil, principalmente nos contos de fadas, por terem sido considerados os primeiros textos destinados à infância, no século XVII. No presente artigo, analisaremos como se dá a construção e representação da morte em “História de uma mãe” (2012), de Hans Christian Andersen, afim de percebemos como se construiu um texto em que a morte aparece como personagem da trama e não como mero acessório. Para realização do trabalho, realizamos a leitura de alguns teóricos, como Ariès (2012), Paiva (2011), Azevedo (1999) e Coelho (2012), e traçamos um percurso acerca da morte na literatura de modo geral e na literatura infantil, mais especificamente, unindo-o com a análise do texto, que nos traz a morte representada como uma pessoa e mostra a trama de uma mãe que enfrenta uma série de obstáculos para livrar seu filho, até mesmo o de entrega-lo à morte.
