The white-rot fungus Bjerkanderu sp. BOSS5 produced de-novo several aromatic metabolites. Bcsidcs vcratryl alcohol and veratraldchyde, compounds which are known to be involved in the ligninolytic system of several other white-rot fungi, other metabolitcs were formed. These included anisaldehyde, 3-chloro.xnisaldchydc and a yet unknown compound containing two chlorine atoms. Additionally GC/MS analysis revealed the production of small amounts ofanisyl alcohol and 3-chloro-anisyl alcohol. After 14 days, tbe extracellular fluid of Ltjerkuttdera l3OS55 contained lOO/tM veratraldehyde and 50,~M 5-chloro-anisaldehyde. This is the first report ofde-novo biosynthesis of simple chlorinated aromatic compounds by a white-rot fungus. Anisaldehyde and 3.chloro-anisaldehyde were also produced by Bjerkatrderrr adusru but not by Pl~ar~e~ocltuerc c/rr_vsospriu/rr.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
