Fischthal, J. H. 1980. Some digenetic trematodes of marine fishes from Israel's Mediterranean coast and their zoogeography, especially those from Red Sea immigrant fishes. -2001. Scr. 9: 11-23.A total of 500 fishes (59 species) from Israel's Mediterranean coastal waters were examined for digenetic trematodes and 201 (40.2 %) harbored at least one species. One new genus (Proparvipyrum) and 1 1 new species are described: Bacciger israelensis (Fellodistomidae) from Sarpa salpa and Boops boops; Ancylocoelium israelense and Chrisomon israelensis (both Monorchiidae) from A i d e djeddaba; Diphiherosiomum israelense (Zoogonidae) from Diplodus sargus, D . vulgaris and Saurida undosquamis; Proparvipyrum israelense (Zoogonidae) from Mullus surmuleius; Acanihocolpoides israelensis (Lepocreadiidae) from Sardinella maderensis; Neolepidapedon israelense (Lepocreadiidae) from Mullus surmuletus; Podocoryle jaffensis (Opecoelidae) from Dentex jilosus; Podocoryle (Pedunculorrema) israelensis frqm Pornadasys incisus and Pelates quadrilineaius; Lecithochirium haijense (Hemiuridae) from Atule djeddaba; Leciihochirium israelense from Trachinus araneus and Scyris alexandrina. 36 previously known species were identified, and all represent new geographical distribution records. Some Red Sea immigrant fishes brought trematodes with them to the Mediterranean and some acquired Atlanto-Mediterranean species.Description (based on 99 worms, 6 adults measured): Body 571-879 long by 395-550 wide, pinkish in life, oval to spindle-shaped, finely spined. Parenchymal gland cells from pharyngeal to acetabular level, mostly ventral. Forebody 183-298 long; hindbody 3 18495 long; forebody-hindbody length ratio 1 : 1.37-1.87. Oral sucker usually ventroterminal, occasionally terminal, 85-109 by 85-121 round to transversely elongate. Acetabulum 70-92 by 73-98, round to slightly longitudinally or transversely elongate. Sucker length ratio 1 : 0.78-0.98, width ratio 1 : 0.804.87. Repharynx short, often not apparent; pharynx 48-75 by 53-75, transversely elongate, occasionally round or longitudinally elongate; esophagus muscular, 34-97 long; cecal bifurcation short distance preacetabular; ceca usually tubular, occasionally dilated, lined with long cells, extending to short distance pretesticular or contiguous with testes. Twelve species of digenetic trematodes are reported from birds from North Borneo (Malaysia). A new genus and species described is Transversohelmins borneoensis (Heterophyidae) from Charadrius leschenaultii. Three new species described are Echinoparyphium borneoense (Echinostomatidae) from Amaurornis phoenicurus, Episthmium borneoense (Echinostomatidae) from Alcedo menil:ting verreauxii, and Posthovitellum sabahense (Eumegacetidae) from Rhipidura javanica longicauda. Papillatrema sp. (Eumegacetidae) from Apus apus affinis subfurcatus is described and figured, but is not allocated to species as the specimen is immature. Previously described species reported are: Mesostephanus haliasturus Tubarigui and Masiluñgan, 1941 (Cyathocotylidae) from Haliastur indus intermedius; Acanthoparyphium ochthodromi Tubangui,1933 (Echinostomatidae) from Charadrius leschenaultii; Tanaisia (Tanaisia) fedtschenkoi Skrjabin, 1924 (Eucotylidae) from Aegithina tiphia aequanimis; T. (Tamerlania) zarudnyi Skrjabin, 1924, from Pycnonotus zeylanicus, Anthreptes malacensis borneoensis, and Argusianus argus grayi; Haplorchis taichui (Nishigori, 1924) Witenberg, 1930 (Heterophyidae) from Haliastur indus intermedius and Ketupa ketupa keptupa; Pygidiopsis marivillai Refuerzo and Garcia, 1937 (Heterophyidae) from Butorides striatus; Plagiorchis maculosus (Rudolphi, 1802) Braun, 1901 (Plagiorchiidae) from Hirundo rustica gutteralis.
43 species of digenetic trematodes of birds are reported from Taiwan. One new family, one new subfamily, two new genera, and nine new species are described: Taiwantrematidae fam. n.
