A segurança alimentar e nutricional (SAN) corresponde ao direito que todo indivíduo tem a uma alimentação de qualidade e em quantidade suficiente, desde que este acesso não venha interferir em outras necessidades essenciais, e ainda de modo relevante, que este respeite as diferenças culturais, sendo econômica e ambientalmente sustentável ao meio ao qual o indivíduo está inserido. Objetivo-Avaliar a prevalência de insegurança alimentar e nutricional e fatores associados em domicílios com adolescentes do município de Alta Floresta-MT, área de influência da BR 163. Métodos-O presente estudo faz parte de uma pesquisa de base populacional, observacional do tipo transversal, realizada no ano de 2007, intitulada "Segurança Alimentar e Nutricional da população residente na área de influência da BR 163". A amostra foi composta por 121 adolescentes e 84 domicílios do município de Alta Floresta-MT. A segurança alimentar e nutricional foi investigada através da Escala Brasileira de Segurança Alimentar-EBIA.
Estudos sobre a qualidade da dieta em diversos países, incluindo o Brasil, têm demonstrado que a maioria dos indivíduos possui uma dieta que necessita de modificações. Objetivou-se comparar os componentes do Índice de Qualidade da Dieta-Revisado segundo variáveis socioeconômicas e demográficas. Trata-se de um estudo transversal, de base populacional realizado em 2007, com dados de 446 indivíduos com idade igual ou superior a 2 anos, residentes na área urbana de Alta Floresta, Diamantino, Sinop e Sorriso-MT, municípios pertencentes à Amazônia Legal. O consumo alimentar foi aferido pelo Recordatório 24 horas e a qualidade da dieta foi avaliada pelo Índice de Qualidade da Dieta Revisado (IQD-R). Utilizaram-se os testes de Mann-Whitney e de Kruskal-Wallis para comparar a pontuação dos componentes do IQD-R em relação às variáveis independentes consideradas. Com relação às variáveis de estudo, os indivíduos idosos, brancos e com renda superior a dois salários mínimos apresentaram maiores pontuações nos componentes relacionados ao consumo de Frutas, enquanto que crianças, de raça/cor branca e chefe de família com 9 anos ou mais de estudo, maior consumo de Leite e derivados e menor ingestão de sódio. Indivíduos de raça/cor não branca apresentaram maiores pontuações para os componentes associados ao consumo de vegetais e de "carnes, ovos e leguminosas". Indivíduos com renda inferior a um salário mínimo apresentaram maiores pontuações para os componentes "Gord_AA", "carnes, ovos e leguminosas" e "vegetais".
