Receptor binding studies were undertaken in an attempt to identify and characterize pharmacologically and functionally distinct receptor sites for y-aminobutyric acid (GABA) in rat brain. The results indicated that the potency of bicuculline, a GABA receptor antagonist, to displace membranebound [3H]GABA varies significantly among different brain regions, with the greatest potency found in the cerebral cortex and midbrain. In addition, in the presence of 50 mM ammonium thiocyanate,
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
