Maxwell's displacement current is addressed in the most basic of terms, starting from Coulomb's I~w. The aim ?f this approach is to shed new light on some questions that have dogged the concept, and to help.understanding of the~ey Issues involved, in particular, cause and effect, common origin of induced magnetic fi~ld a.nd dlspla?ement current,~Ifferen~es resulting from a fundamental physical view as opposed to a purely phenornenoloqlcal View, and finally the appropriate choice of magnetic source terms.
The Raman spectrum of orthorhombic sulphur has been measured in the frequency range 0-100 cm-l for all polarisations. The A l , ( z z ) and B~,(xy) spectra have been clarified by later subtraction of unwanted scattering belonging to other polarisations. Definite assignments are made for all but one A1, and one Be, mode. An interpretation of the intensities observed in the A l , and BI, spectra is given in terms of the rotational motion of the SS molecules affecting their contribution to the crystal polarisability.
This paper is concerned with the automation and control of grating spectrometers by digital techniques. The methods outlined include: a simple manually operated digital control: a dedicated logic system with data storage; data acquisition and control systems run by a computer in real-time and time-sharing modes. The performance of these methods is evaluated. A basic spectrometer control unit is described; this unit forms a module around which more general spectrometer control systems may be constructed.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
