Investigou-se a prevalência de leptospirose em cães da cidade de Curitiba, Paraná. Foram examinadas 399 amostras de soro sangüíneo, no Laboratório de Análises Clínicas Veterinárias “Veterinária Preventiva”, no período de 01 de Janeiro a 31 de Dezembro de 2005, de cães de ambos os sexos e de diferentes raças e idades. O diagnóstico de leptospirose foi feito pela técnica de soroaglutinação microscópica, testando-se nove sorovares. Das 399 amostras, 114 (28,57%) foram reagentes para os seguintes sorovares: copenhageni (86,84%), canicola (9,65%) e icterohaemorrhagiae (2,63%). A única infecção mista foi observada devido aos sorovares copenhageni e bratislava (0,87%).
Comparou-se a prova de imunodifusão em gel de ágar (IDGA), utilizando extrato polissacarídico (POLI O), obtido da amostra de B. abortus 1119-3, com os testes de soroaglutinação rápida em placa, de soroaglutinação lenta em tubos, de antígeno acidificado e de 2-mercaptoetanol para o diagnóstico da brucelose bovina. O IDGA mostrou alta especificidade, porém sensibilidade inferior aos métodos convencionais.
