An automatic air sampling system has been combined with a direct reading spectrograph into a mobile cabinet for the continuous quantitative determination of beryllium particulate matter in air. An analysis is reported every 75 sec with a precision of about 20% at the 95% confidence level. Sensitivity is about 0.5 μg/m3 beryllium.
The prevalent use of silica brick has focused attention upon the need for control and improvement in quality. A review of the methods available'reveals that many laboratory tests have been developed to avert expensive trial testing. It is significant, how ever, that the chemical knowledge of this product has lagged owing to (1) difficulty in sampling, (2) the tedious and time-consuming aspects of wet chemical methods, and (3) the consequent lack of knowledge of the deleterious effects of certain secondary constituents.A total-energy method has been developed to permit analysis of AlzOs, MgO, FezOs, CaO, NazO, TiOz, K20, ZrOz, MnOt, and LizO. Thirty minutes are required for sample preparation and twenty-five minutes for the spectrographic process. Present accuracy is well within production limits. One of the newer analytical tools is the spectrograph. This method is also suitable for the analysis of glass sand.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
