Although questioning is of interest to many fields, multidisciplinary approaches are rare. The various literatures remain comparatively isolated from one another, although they are potentially interrelated in mutually beneficial ways. To reveal these interrelations and to introduce nonspecialists to unfamiliar perspectives, the literatures on questioning in a dozen fields of thought and practice are surveyed and then compared. The contrasts reveal a matrix of common interests, unresolved issues, complementary expertise, and contradictory conclusions. These circumstances suggest the promise of multidisciplinary study of questioning.
