Suaeda glauca Bge. (Chenopodiaceae, Suaeda). is a kind plant of liking salt wet with stem succulent leaves. It can tolerate temporary drought 1. The dormancy period of seeds is very short and under appropriate conditions it can rapidly germinate seeds. Around the alkaline lake and on the saline-alkali spots scattered or cluster growth, Suaeda glauca Bge. can form pure community and was also associated species with other halophyte communities. At present, the research around Suaeda mainly concentrated on extraction of pigment from Suaeda 2 and biochemical activity of extracts 3. The agricultural use of Suaeda seems to be more popular. Due to generally grown in saline-alkali soil, Suaeda plays a crucial role in beach green 4,5. Another use of Suaeda is mainly as the green feed of livestock, which can reduce the burden of farmers. Some species of Suaeda is edible, even it was reported that Suaeda has become one of the export sales of vegetable products 6. But preliminary study proved that flavonoids is one of the effective components. However, the extraction and the content of the active component has not reported in detail. Quercetin is one of flavonoids 1 , it has the prominent biological activity and important pharmacological activities 7,8. There were the evidences that these activities had the ability of protection against damage 9,10 .
Suaeda glauca Bge leaf extract was evaluated for total phenolic content and antioxidant capacity. The extraction process of total phenolics based microwave-assisted extraction was optimized by single-factor experiment and response surface methodology, which parameters included the solid-liquid ratio, extraction time and extraction cycle. Under the optimized experimental conditions, the best results were obtained that in highest extraction total phenolic content was 2624.29 ug g-1 with microwave time for 68.34 min, liquid-solid ratio for 62.33 mL g-1 and three time extraction. The proposed microwave-assisted extraction was an efficient extraction procedure with shorter extraction time and remarkable higher efficiencies. The assay of antioxidant capacity contained potential free radical scavenging activities for 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl free radical (DPPH), hydroxyl radical (OH), superoxide radicals (O2-) and hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), which compared with standards VC/BHT. The present study indicated that Suaeda glauca Bge leaf possess a strong anti-radical activity and may be considering to make efforts in the oxidation resistance of application.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
