Ober die neuen Versuche, die Angriffsstellen der yon T6nen ausgehenden Sehallwellen im Ohre zu lokalisieren. Yon J. Rich. Ewald. (Mit 2 Textfiguren.) Die folgenden Zeilen haben den Zweck, ein Missverst~ndnis aufzukli~ren, das sonst leicht zu weiteren Irrtiimern fiihren kSnnte. Man hat gemeint, durch eine Reihe an und fi~r sich sehr interessanter Beobachtungen die H e 1 m h o 1 t z' sche Resonatorentheorie 1) stiitzen zu kSnnen, und da alles, was far diese Theorie zu sprechen scheint, sich zugleich gegen die Scballbildertheorie wendet, so babe ich allen Grund, die Beziehungen der neu gefundenen Tatsachen zu den HOrtheorien festzustellen. Von den hier in Betracht kommenden Arbeiten ist die alteste die yon Wittmaack~), welche direkt den Titel ffihrt: ,,Eine neue St~tze der H e 1 m h o 1 tz' schen Resonanztheorie". Sie bildet gewissermaassen eine Erweiterung ~ler etwas frilheren Arbeit 8) desselben hutors, die zwar schon die gleiche Untersuchungsmethode und die interessanten Resultate, zu denen er mit ihrer Hilfe gelangte, ent-h~ilt, in der er aber noch keine direkte •utzanwendung auf die Resonatorentheorie oder sonst eine HSrtheorie macht. In der letztgenannten Arbeit wird ein Versuch geschildert, bei dem der Schall einer Trillerpfeife auf alas Ohr eines Meerschweinchens 1) Auch die Schallbildertheorie nimmt an~ dass die ~embrana basilaris dutch Resonanz in Mitschwingung versetzt wird. Es ist daher der Name Resonanztheorie kein far die H e 1 m h o 1 t z ' sche Theorie allein charakteristischer. Er wurde auch urspriinglich yon Helmholtz nicht zur Bezeichnung seiner Theorie benutzt und hat sich erst allm~thlich eingebtirgert. Fiir die H e lra h o 1 t z' sche Theorie bezeichnend ist die Annahme von Resonatoren, welche auf die einzelnen T6ne tier gesamten Tonreihe abgestimmt sind. Gut charakterisiert wird daher die tI el m h o It z' sche Theorie nur dutch den Namen Resonatorentheorie.
I. Abtheilung.Seit der ersten Mittheilung von Flourens tiber die Funetion der halbeirkelf(irmigen Caniile sind nun schon etwa 40 Arbeiten liber diese r:~tthselhaften Organe verSffentlieht worden. Eine iiusserst interessante Litteratur. Es gioe wohl keinen zweiten Fall in der Gesehiehte der Physiologie, bei dem in gleieher Weise, wie hier die B› dnreh vorgefasste Meinungen befangen waren. Das Resultat der Untersuehungen war eigentlieh sehon gegeben bevor noch der erste Bogengang durehtrennt war. Die Lage dieser Gebilde von se einfaeher und regelm~ssiger Gestalt in den 3 Hauptebenen des Raumes konnte .nnm(iglieh als zuf'allige angesehen werden und es kam nur darauf an, ob man leieht wtirde herausfinden kSnnen, welehe Beziehungen zwisehen den Funetionen dieser Theile und den 3 Dimensionen des Raumes bestehen. Offenbar ging sehon Flourens mit dieser Idee an den ersten Versueh. Er hatte -ieh m(iehte fast sagen (tas Gltiek --jedenfalls die Freude, Bewe-gungsstSrungen naeh der Durehsehneidung der einzelnen B(igen zu sehen. Ja noeh mehr. Nieht genug, dass iiberhaupt anormale Bewegungen eintraten, es war aueh in den Bewegungen eine bestimmte Riehtung ausgesproehen, die wenn aueh nieht aussehliesslieh se (loch in sehr vorherrsehender Weise eingehalten wurde. Damit gestaltete sieh dann soibrt die Forderung weit einfaeher und es fragte sieh nur noeh: Welchen Winkel bilden die anormalen Bewegungen mit der Ebene des durehtrennten Bogens. Flourens war in dieser Beziehung nieht ganz eonsequent. FUr die-horizontalen Cani~le nahm er Parallelismus des Bogens und der Bewegung an, von den vertikalen Canalen ordnete er aber
bedeutend st 9 als der aus saurer L(isung. Wird dieser abfiltrirt, mit dest. Wassoe vollkommen ausg'ewaschen und dann mit Salpetersiiure tibergossen, so 15st sich ein grosser Theil. DieLGsung enthi~lt riel Baryt und giebt --aber erst nach dem Kochen mit Salpetersiiure --sehr starke Phosphors~urereaction mit molybdi~nsaurem Ammon. Dieser also rcichlieh Baryt-und Phosphors~iure-haltig'e Niederschlag enthi~lt sehr riel organische Substanz. Ieh habe daraus bisher noeh kein fiir die Analyse brauehbares Praparat dargestelit.Oh man es hier~(in der~Fallung aus ammoniakalischer Liisung) vielleieht mit dem Barytsalz einer ,,Nucleinsi~ure" zu thun hat, tiber deren Vorkommen in der Hefe Richard Altmann 1) Mittheilung gemacht hat, miissen weitere Untersuehungen entscheiden.
