In many Asian countries, most people believe that creating a city as an economic growth machine is the only way to overcome the problem of urbanization development. This trend has pushed the cities away from their primary function as a human habitat which is built based on the coexistence among social groups that live there. One of the factors which likely aggravates the social situation, if the economic crisis happens, is the weakened social relation among the society due to the occurrence of global economic. In this paper discusses the three processes which serve as a catalyst to the process of city restructuring that are commodification, privatization and commercialization. The result of the development is that the city functions as a social institution is increasingly ignored and worsens the social inequality.</span>

The application of the concept of Javanese traditional buildings into a design concept in order to maintain the values of the surrounding community and the application of connectivity between spaces. The collection of primary data and secondary data in the form of physical and non-physical data with qualitative methods. Sindang Market is expected to become a comfortable public space container and can maximize its function as a market and public space so that it can become an economic center and also become a center for the activities of the surrounding community with the aim of being able to revive Sindang Market. The re-design process with a locality approach is carried out so that Sindang Market can become an appropriate market for the surrounding community to support urban and surrounding space activities. Namun kondisinya yang terus mengalami degradasi, menyebabkan menurunnya minat masyarakat berkunjung. Letak Pasar Sindang yang dekat dengan rusunawa dan pemukiman padat serta keberadaan jalan lingkungan pada sisi Pasar Sindang menciptakan kesan kumuh dan tertutup menjadi suatu permasalahan namun dapat menjadi potensi untuk mengembangkan Pasar Sindang. Pendekatan lokalitas dilakukan bertujuan untuk dapat mempertimbangkan kondisi masyarakat dan lingkungan sekitarnya serta pengaruhnya terhadap proses re-desain Pasar Sindang. Penerapan konsep bangunan adat Jawa menjadi konsep desain agar mempertahankan nilai – nilai masyarakat sekitar serta penerapan keterhubungan antar ruang. Pengumpulan data primer dan data sekunder berupa data fisik dan nonfisik dengan metode kualitatif. Pasar Sindang diharapkan dapat menjadi sebuah wadah ruang publik yang nyaman serta dapat memaksimalkan fungsinya sebagai pasar dan ruang publik sehingga dapat menjadi suatu pusat perekonomian dan juga menjadi pusat terjadinya aktivitas masyarakat sekitar dengan tujuan untuk dapat menghidupkan kembali Pasar Sindang. Proses re-desain dengan pendekatan lokalitas dilakukan agar Pasar Sindang dapat menjadi pasar yang tepat guna bagi masyarakat sekitar sehingga dapat menjadi mendukung aktivitas ruang kota dan sekitarnya.
The culinary area of Pasar Lama Tangerang city has potential to be a City Tourist icon. Located in the middle city, and the transport is easy to reach. But culinary tours are very crowded and are not yet supported by social facilities according to their role. The comfort of visitors and traders is still very low, the visitors do not have a seat, and it is difficult to find parking, the lack of green land (park) due to land density. Supporting facilities are very needed in the form of arrangement of buildings and land using urban methods. acupuncture Daily architectural design methods are also used, and the analysis process is carried out to find what the Region needs. Containers as the main material that gives the impression of Tangerang as an industrial city, the use is also lifting the sustainable concept. The containers are selected because the components are module, and in accordance with the size of the module in the space, adjust the capacity adjustment to the residents and consider the human scale for each room. The concept of corridors and clusters are applied in Culinary Areas. The design obtained to achieve comfort by using containers is not maximal if they do not help with other systems structure. The results use containers that will provide a large enough space for design development and can be applied to market function or others that have the same problem. Lokasinya yang berada di tengah kota, dan transportasi yang mudah untuk mencapai kawasan. Namun wisata kuliner sangat crowded dan belum didukung dengan fasilitas sosial sesuai perannya. Kenyamanan pengunjung dan para pedagang masih sangat rendah, para pengunjung tidak memiliki tempat duduk, serta sulit mencari parkir, minimnya lahan hijau (taman) karena kepadatan lahan. Fasilitas penunjang sangat dibutuhkan dalam bentuk penataan bangunan dan lahan dengan menggunakan metode urban akupuntur. Metode desain arsitektur keseharian juga digunakan, dan dilakukan proses analisis untuk menemukan apa yang dibutuhkan Kawasan. Kontainer sebagai material utama yang memberi kesan ciri khas Tangerang sebagai kota industri, pemanfaatannya juga mengangkat konsep sustainable. Kontainer dipilih karena komponennya bersifat modular, dan sesuai ukuran modul pada ruang, dilakukan penyesuaian kapasitas pada penghuninya serta mempertimbangkan skala manusia untuk ukuran setiap ruangan. Konsep koridor dan cluster diterapkan di dalam penataan Kawasan kuliner. Desain yang diperoleh untuk mencapai kenyamanan dengan menggunakan container tidak maksimal jika tidak dibantu dengan sistem struktur yang lain. Dari hasil pemanfaatan kontainer yang akan memberikan ruang yang cukup luas untuk pengembangan desain dan bisa diterapkan pada fungsi pasar atau lainnya yang memiliki problematik sama.
