The manipulation of cytokinin contents via Agrobacterium-mediated transformation is an efficient tool for delaying leaf senescence and improving the resistance to environmental stresses. In the present study, cotton transformants harbouring the Agrobacterium tumefaciens isopentenyl transferase (IPT) gene under the control of the promoter of Gossypium hirsutum cysteine proteinase (Ghcysp) were generated. PCR and Southern blot analysis indicated that the foreign DNA fragment was successfully integrated into the cotton genome. The chlorophyll and cytokinin contents, and ROS-scavenging enzymatic activities were significantly increased in transgenic cotton lines, which resulted in a significant delay in leaf senescence. The growth characteristics of transgenic cotton lines resembled the non-transgenic lines except delaying premature senescence and the lint yield and fiber quality of transgenic lines were improved. In addition, the transgenic lines had higher biomasses, IPT transcripts, and endogenous cytokinin contents compared with those of non-transgenic lines under 200 mM NaCl stress. Interactions between energetic particles (EPs) and neoclassical tearing mode (NTM) islands in the DIII-D tokamak are studied using the global gyrokinetic toroidal code (GTC). GTC simulations find that the EP radial profile is partially flattened within the magnetic island regions and that there are stochastic regions in the particle phase space. Radial particle flux is induced mainly around the magnetic island regions and decreases with time to almost zero when the initial EP distribution achieves a new steady-state in the absence of EP sources. Stochastic regions of magnetic field lines induced by the superposition of multiple islands have weak effects on the particle flux when the width of stochastic regions is smaller than the EP drift orbit width. The perturbed parallel EP current induced by the magnetic islands has weak stabilizing effects on the linear growth rate of the NTM instability in this DIII-D experiment.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
