The genus distribution of a graph G is defined to be the sequence {gm} such that gm is the number of different imbeddings of G in the closed orientable surface of genus m. A counting formula of D.M. Jackson concerning the cycle structure of permutations is used to derive the genus distribution for any bouquet of circles Bn. It is proved that all these genus distributions for bouquets are strongly unimodal.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
