The accountability and reform movements in education and the human services professions have pressured counselors to demonstrate outcomes of counseling programs and services. Evaluation models developed for large‐scale evaluations are generally impractical for counselors to implement. Counselors require practical models to guide them in planning and conducting counseling program evaluations. The authors present the Accountability Bridge Counseling Program Evaluation Model and discuss its use in evaluating counseling services and programs
Researchers only recently have begun to examine the environmental and contextual factors that influence adolescent drinking behavior. The objective of this study was to create and test a comprehensive model of adolescent problem drinking. Items from the National Education Longitudinal Study: 1988 National Center for Educational Statistics, 1996) were used to create measurement models for all latent variables in the hypothesized structural model. Results indicated that high levels of parental support and a positive school climate in the 8th grade influence the formation of relationships with peers with positive values in the 10th grade that guarded against problem-drinking behavior in the 10th grade.Electronic Journal: To print this article select pages 72-80. The methods used to train counselors need to be reexamined because research has consistently shown that trained clinicians are not more effective than untrained individuals. This article presents an empirically based discussion of methods for reconstructing the clinical training portion of counselor education to increase the effectiveness of training. The proposed reconstruction focuses on the topics of establishing a therapeutic relationship, increasing counselor skillfulness, and training in client matching.Counselor educators want to foster the development of clinical skills so that counselors can promote positive changes in their clients. Therefore. a major focus in counselor education is the professional development of counselors and their clinical skills. The question then arises concerning how to best train counselors to be competent clinicians.
