El estudio se llevó a cabo en la Finca Experimental Santa Lucía de la Universidad Nacional de Costa Rica, en Barva de Heredia. Se extrajo semilla vegetativa de una plantación de nacedero establecida hace ocho años y con 575 días de rebrote. Las ramas se dividieron en tres secciones: basal, medial y apical, y de cada sección se extrajeron estacas de 40 cm de largo, con al menos tres nudos. Posteriormente, se trataron con cuatro concentraciones de ácido indol butírico (AIB) (0, 2500, 5000, 7500 ppm). Las estacas extraídas de la partebasal de la rama mostraron un 20,4 % más de brote total (rizogénesis y crecimiento vegetativo) en comparación con las estacas provenientes de la sección medial, y un 32,6 % más que las ubicadas en la parte apical. La estimulación con AIB sobre la brotación total de yemas y raíces mostró que la dosis aplicada con 2500 ppm, fue 10 % mayor en comparación con las estacas no tratadas con AIB en la generación de brotes tanto foliares como radiculares.
