Este trabalho nasce com profundas preocupações com o professor do Brasil, especialmente com o professor de Taquarana, Alagoas. Uma profissão que, na atualidade, tem encontrado dificuldades em dar sentido, ou até mesmo significado à vida a partir do seu fazer. Trata-se de uma profissão que está inserida em um movimento capitalista, mercantil e tecnológico, em que a valorização é dada pelo que se tem, e não pelo que o profissional é, situação a qual a valorização está diretamente ligada à capacidade produtiva do professor, ao que parece esse é o valor que mais importa, o produto do seu trabalho.Um trabalho que nasceu das conclusões advindas da dissertação de mestrado, no qual mostra o quanto se está inserido num tempo tecnificante, que gradua técnicos e não mais pessoas, um tempo em que a humanidade anda esquecida, um tempo em que a essência humana encontra-se em perigo. Ou melhor, o professor está em perigo. Foi dessa questão que nasceu este trabalho.Infelizmente, segundo Codo (1999), nem sempre o trabalho proporciona crescimento, e mais, muitas vezes exerce um "choque" entre o que a gente é e o trabalho realizado. Choque revelador de sofrimento, potencializador da morte de sonhos no professor. Mas isso não acontece de um dia para o outro. Isso leva tempo. Mas a impressão que se tem hoje em dia é que esse tempo é mais curto e acelerado, como tudo nos dias de hoje, e isso é preocupante, pois se há décadas o professor adoecia, mas levava de 20 a 25 anos para adoecer e ser afastado, coisa que por sinal não era tão comum, nos dias de hoje é comum, segundo Fonseca (2012), encontrar professores sendo afastados da sala de aula com 5 a 10 anos de profissão. Diante disso, é possível perceber que algo mudou, e neste aspecto, mudou para pior.O burnout é considerado a síndrome do novo milênio (Fonseca, Santana & Gomes, 2005).
