Presence of an isolated double bond in the second chelate loop of chromophore B is apparently of minor importance. However, if this double bond is conjugated with the -diimine grouping (direct) electronic effects become operative. The large bathochromic Inorganic Chemistry effect of such "intrachromophoric" conjugation strongly suggests that the ir*-orbitals involved now become delocalized in the second chelate loop.Acknowledgment.-The benefit of discussions with Prof. H.
