Les auteurs ont décrit la synthèse de dérivés de la procaïne dans lesquels la partie médiane de la molécules est modifiée, le groupe COO de la procaïne étant remplacé resp. par le groupement CH2−, CO, O, S, SO et SO2. II ressort des essais pharmacologiques effectués avec les chlorhydrates de ces dérivés que: Aucum des corps nouveaux ne provoque une anesthésie locale des surface. Leur pouvoir de produire une anesthésie locale de conduction est inférieur à celui de la procaïne: le (p‐aminophényl)‐1‐diéthylamino‐3‐propane et le thioéther p‐aminophényl‐diéthylaminoéthylique sont environ 10 fois moins actifs, l'éther p‐aminophényl‐diéthylaminoéthylique est environ 30 fois moins actif, la p‐aminophényl‐diéthylaminoéthyl‐sulfone est environ 40 fois moins active, et enfin la p‐aminophényl‐diéthylaminoéthyl‐cétone a une activité inférieure à celle du procaïnamide, qui a lui‐même une activité inférieure au 1/50 de celle de la procaïne.
