The tert‐hexylbromoborane dimethylsulfide complex (III), generated from bromoborane.SMe2 (I) and 2,3‐dimethyl‐2‐butene (II), is employed in the reduction of the carboxylic acids and their corresponding lithium and sodium salts (IV), producing the aldehydes (V).
The aldehydes (II) are prepared from the acids (I) in a one‐pot procedure via reduction of the corresponding acyloxy‐9‐borabicyclo(3.3.1)nonanes by a second equiv. of BBN.
