El enorme esfuerzo destinado en los últimos años a la investigación en el campo de la etiopatogenia de las glomerulonefritis ha permitido delimitar con bastante precisión los mecanismos que conducen a la lesión glomerular. El estudio inmunológico de distintos tipos de glomerulonefritis humanas así como la profundización paralela en modelos experimentales, ha permitido conocer que la etiopatogenia de la mayor parte de las glomerulonefritis humanas clasificadas actualmente, es inmunológica. Trabajos pioneros en este campo 9 , i 3 , 14 , 15 , 36 han permitido definir los dos grandes mecanismos patogénicos de lesión glomerular inmunológica: anticuerpos dirigidos contra antígenos de la membrana basal glomerular y lesión inflamatoria glomerular secundaria al depósito de complejos inmunes circulantes no relacionados con el riñón. • A continuación repasaremos algunos aspectos de la patogenia de las glomerulonefritis encuadrándolas dentro de estos dos mecanismos, refiriéndonos en primer lugar, dentro de cada uno de ellos, a los modelos éxperimentales que han permitido el conocerlos mejor.
