The following solid compounds were prepared and characterized in inert atmospheres: MUCl6 (M = R b and (n-C3H7)4S), both new compounds in regard to the cation present; UClj.SOC12; UCls.PClj; and UCl;.TCSC (TCAC = trichloroacrylyl chloride, C12C=CCICOCI), a new compound. Infrared spectra were obtained. Electronic spectra in the near-ir and visible region were obtained for the MUC16 compounds dissolved in SOCl,; for UClj.TCAC dissolved in SOCl,, CsH6, CS2, and CCL; for UCls.SOCll dissolved in SOCl, and CCI,; and for UCl6 in CCla and SiC14. Electronic as well as vibronic band assignments have been made for these 5f1 electronic systems and several of the vibrational frequencies of the UC16-species have been deduced from the electronic spectra. The first esr spectra for pure U(V) compounds, obtained with powdered samples, are reported, and the average g values are all 1.1.In addition, solutions of UCls in CCla and Sicla were prepared.(1) Abstracted in part from the Ph.D. thesis of J. scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
