Abstract. Time-dependent data, defined by the attributes start time and duration can describe continuous media. A short theoretical analysis of sets of time-dependent data forms the first part of this paper. The results are three normal forms of continuous media data. In the second part, a data model for continuous media called Sequence is defined according to the theory presented. Not only does this model implement the data structure, it also inculdes operations that apply generally to continuous media data. The third part of the paper is a short overview showing how to integrate time-dependent data as Sequences into database systems.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
