To analyze whether Escherichia coli strains that cause urinary tract infections (UPEC) share virulence characteristics with the diarrheagenic E. coli (DEC) pathotypes and to recognize their genetic diversity, 225 UPEC strains were examined for the presence of various properties of DEC and UPEC (type of interaction with HeLa cells, serogroups and presence of 30 virulence genes). No correlation between adherence patterns and serogroups was observed. Forty-five serogroups were found, but 64% of the strains belonged to one of the 12 serogroups (O1, O2, O4, O6, O7, O14, O15, O18, O21, O25, O75, and O175) and carried UPEC virulence genes (pap, hly, aer, sfa, cnf). The DEC genes found were: aap, aatA, aggC, agg3C, aggR, astA, eae, ehly, iha, irp2, lpfA O113 , pet, pic, pilS, and shf. Sixteen strains presented aggregative adherence and/or the aatA sequence, which are characteristics of enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC), one of the DEC pathotypes. In summary, certain UPEC strains may carry DEC virulence properties, mostly associated to the EAEC pathotype. This finding raises the possibility that at least some faecal EAEC strains might represent potential uropathogens. Alternatively, certain UPEC strains may have acquired EAEC properties, becoming a potential cause of diarrhoea.

Abstract. We present the first results of our speckle interferometric measurements of binary stars made with the ICCD speckle camera using the 1.52-m telescope of the Observatorio Astronomico Nacional at Calar Alto (Spain) in September, 1999. The data contain 123 observations of 83 systems. The measured angular separations range from 0. 153 to 6. 727. We have used there new speckle measurements to improve the orbital elements for the binaries COU 247 and BU 524 AB.

We present the first results of K2-OjOS, a collaborative project between professional and amateur astronomers primarily aimed to detect, characterize and validate new extrasolar planets. For this work, 10 amateur astronomers looked for planetary signals by visually inspecting the 20,427 light curves of K2 campaign 18 (C18). They found 42 planet candidates, of which 18 are new detections and 24 had been detected in the overlapping C5 by previous works. We used archival photometric and spectroscopic observations, as well as new high-spatial resolution images in order to carry out a complete analysis of the candidates found, including a homogeneous characterization of the host stars, transit modeling, search for transit timing variations and statistical validation. As a result, we report four new planets (K2-355 b, K2-356 b, K2-357 b, and K2-358 b) and 14 planet candidates. Besides, we refine the transit ephemeris of the previously published planets and candidates by modeling C5, C16 (when available) and C18 photometric data jointly, largely improving the period and mid-transit time precision. Regarding individual systems, we highlight the new planet K2-356 b and candidate EPIC 211537087.02 being near a 2:1 period commensurability, the detection of significant TTVs in the bright star K2-184 (V = 10.35), the location of K2-103 b inside the habitable zone according to optimistic models, the detection of a new single transit in the known system K2-274, and the disposition reassignment of K2-120 b, which we consider as a planet candidate as the origin of the signal can not be ascertained.

We analyzed the photometry of 20038 cool stars from campaigns 12, 13, 14 and 15 of the K2 mission in order to detect, characterize and validate new planetary candidates transiting low-mass stars. We present a catalogue of 25 new periodic transit-like signals in 22 stars, of which we computed the parameters of the stellar host for 19 stars and the planetary parameters for 21 signals. We acquired speckle and AO images, and also inspected archival Pan-STARRS1 images and Gaia DR2 to discard the presence of close stellar companions and to check possible transit dilutions due to nearby stars. False positive probability (FPP) was computed for 22 signals, obtaining FPP < $1\%$ for 17. We consider 12 of them as statistically validated planets. One signal is a false positive and the remaining 12 signals are considered as planet candidates. 20 signals have orbital period Porb < 10 d, 2 have 10 d < Porb < 20 d and 3 have Porb > 20 d. Regarding radii, 11 candidates and validated planets have computed radius R <2R⊕, 9 have 2R⊕ < R <4R⊕, and 1 has R >4R⊕. 2 validated planets and 2 candidates are located in moderately bright stars ($\rm m_{kep}<13$) and 2 validated planets and 3 candidates have derived orbital radius within the habitable zone according to optimistic models. Of special interest is the validated warm super-Earth K2-323 b (EPIC 248616368 b) with T$_{\rm eq} = 318^{+24}_{-43} \, K$, Sp = 1.7 ± 0.2 S⊕, Rp = 2.1 ± 0.1 R⊕, located in a m$\rm _{kep}$ = 14.13 star.

Results of our second observational run of binary star interferometric measurements with an ICCD speckle camera attached to the 1.52 m telescope of the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional at Calar Alto (Almería, Spain) in 2000 June-July are presented. The measured angular separations range from 0B096 to 6B558. With the use of the new speckle data, the orbits of the visual binaries WDS 14369+4813 and WDS 21597+4908 are improved.
