Problems and possibilities of air sampling (for surface analytical investigatioos) are discussed with particular attention to methods that fractionize particles by their sizes. Applications are illustrated by examples using metal a d tetlon surfaces as samplers. Biological samplers, such as leaves of dilierent trees, proved to be applicable for XPS aoalysis a d showed high sulphate content on theii surfaces independent of the location of the three sampling sites. Iodepedeody of the methods a d sites of air sampling a lioear correlation has been fouod between the quantities of the surface carbon a d nitrogen s p i e s characterized by their N Is binding eoergies close to 400 eV, indicating surface bods to carbon particles.
