Summary
The disease is a rare one of dubious pathogenesis. The clinical presentation is usually one of the sudden onset of intermittent claudication in a young adult male. Arteriography may reveal a stenosis, with or without displacement, or complete occlusion of the popliteal artery, which otherwise appears normal. Treatment is either by incision of the cysts with extrusion of their contents in stenotic lesions or resection of the artery with autogenous vein replacement in complete occlusion.
A search of the literature has revealed 31 documented cases of the disorder, and this paper describes two further cases.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
