Lithium borate glasses of composition 30Li 2 O-10MO-59B 2 O 3 :1Nd 2 O 3 (MO= ZnO, CaO and CdO) were prepared by conventional melt quenching method. The amorphous nature of these glasses was confirmed by X-ray diffraction. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis revealed reasonably good forming tendency of the glass composition. FTIR spectra were used to analyze the presence of BO 3 and BO 4 functional groups in the glass. Optical absorption spectra of these glasses were investigated. Judd-Ofelt intensity parameters Ω λ (λ=2,4,6) are evaluated from the intensities of various absorption bands of optical absorption spectra. The comparison of parameter for the present three glasses shows the highest value for ZnBNd glass, indicating the highest covalent character of this glass.
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
